CM Stalin Unveils ‘Thayumanavar Scheme’ for Doorstep Ration Delivery to Elderly and Differently-Abled.

On 13 August 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme, ensuring doorstep delivery of essential ration commodities to senior citizens (above 70 years) and persons with disabilities (PwD), addressing last-mile access barriers for vulnerable populations.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The scheme will benefit approximately 21.7 lakh individuals across the state. This includes 20.42 lakh senior citizens and 1.27 lakh people with disabilities, identified through 16.73 lakh ration cards.
  • - Deliveries of PDS items like rice, sugar, wheat, palmolein oil, and toor dal will occur on the second Saturday and Sunday of every month. The state’s cooperative department will manage logistics via mini-vans equipped with electronic weighing scales, e-PoS machines, and Aadhaar-based authentication.

  • (i) Chief Minister Stalin personally delivered ration items to beneficiaries in Chennai neighbourhoods like Tondiarpet and Annai Sathya Nagar, while Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin flagged off delivery vehicles in Chepauk and Triplicane.
  • (ii) In Coimbatore, the virtual launch saw 1,235 distribution teams mobilised to serve 89,023 beneficiaries associated with 1,401 ration shops, contributing to the broader reach of the scheme across the state.
  • (iii) Framed as a move to tackle the “last-mile barrier,” the scheme aims to uphold dignity and independence for vulnerable citizens. Tamil Nadu has allocated approximately ₹30–36 crore annually to ensure seamless, inclusive delivery of benefits.
