PixelSpace India-Led Consortium Selected to Launch India’s First Indigenous Commercial EO Satellite Constellation under PPP Model.

In August 2025, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), operating under the Department of Space (DoS), announced that PixelSpace India (PSI) will lead a consortium comprising PierSight Space Pvt. Ltd., Satsure Analytics India Pvt. Ltd., and Dhruva Space Pvt. Ltd. to develop and operate India’s first fully indigenous commercial Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellation. The project, valued at over ₹1,200 crore, will be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The PixelSpace India-led consortium has been tasked with launching and managing a constellation of 12 advanced EO satellites. This marks a milestone in India’s space sector as the first private consortium-led initiative of its kind, combining the strengths of multiple domestic space technology firms to boost indigenous satellite capabilities.
  • - The total investment in the project exceeds ₹1,200 crore and will be spread over the next five years. The EO satellites will be deployed in a phased manner to ensure continuous technology upgrades, expanded geographical coverage, and enhanced data reliability for commercial and government applications.
  • - Under the PPP framework, IN-SPACe and the Government of India will provide strategic, technical, and policy-level support to the consortium. While the consortium will handle satellite manufacturing, launch, operations, and commercialization, the government’s involvement will ensure compliance with national space policy objectives and global competitiveness.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The constellation will be equipped with cutting-edge payloads, including panchromatic, multi-spectral, hyperspectral, and microwave Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors. These technologies will enable high-resolution, day-and-night imaging capabilities across varied weather conditions, supporting critical applications in defense, security, and resource monitoring.
  • (ii) Data from the constellation will provide Analysis Ready Data (ARD) and Value-Added Services (VAS) for climate change monitoring, disaster management, agriculture, urban planning, maritime security, and infrastructure development. The initiative also strengthens India’s position in the global space market by reducing reliance on foreign EO data sources.
  • (iii) This project aims to accelerate the growth of India’s space economy, with the government targeting an increase from USD 8.4 billion in 2022 to USD 44 billion by 2033. The constellation’s high-resolution imagery will also support India’s foreign policy, sovereignty, and strategic decision-making in critical sectors.
