NSO Unveils ‘EnviStats India 2025’ Report on Key Environmental Indicators.

On 5 June 2025, the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the 8th edition of its flagship environmental publication titled "EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics".

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • The release took place during the National Workshop on Using Alternate Data Sources and Frontier Technologies for Policy Making held in New Delhi.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Since 2018, NSO has been publishing EnviStats India in accordance with the UN's Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES) 2013.
  • (ii) Thermal Power Generation surged from 7,92,053 GWh to 13,26,549 GWh, while renewable energy-based electricity generation rose sharply from 65,520 GWh to 2,25,835 GWh between 2013–14 and 2023–24.
  • (iii) Inland fish production more than doubled, increasing from 61.36 lakh tonnes to 139.07 lakh tonnes over the same period—indicating significant growth in aquaculture and freshwater fisheries.
