On June 2, 2025, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology, launched 'Bharat Gen' at the BharatGen Summit in New Delhi. This groundbreaking initiative introduces India’s first indigenously developed, government-funded, AI-based Multimodal Large Language Model (LLM), designed to support 22 Indian languages, promoting inclusive and culturally rooted AI development.

  • - The BharatGen Summit 2025 marked India's largest event on Generative AI and Large Language Models. It was organized by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) and IIT Bombay’s Technology Innovation Hub (TIH). A major highlight of the summit was the Generative AI Hackathon 2025, which encouraged students to create AI solutions addressing real-world problems, boosting youth engagement in AI innovation.
  • - Bharat Gen was developed under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) and is implemented by the TIH Foundation for IoT and IoE at IIT Bombay.
