In May 2025, Mauritanian economist Sidi Ould Tah was elected as the ninth President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) during the 2025 AfDB Annual Meetings held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

  • - He will officially take office on 1st September 2025, serving a five-year term, succeeding Akinwumi Adesina of Nigeria, who completed two full terms as AfDB President.

  • - Sidi Ould Tah brings over 30 years of experience in African and international finance, including his tenure as Director General (DG) of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), headquartered in Khartoum, Sudan, from 2015 to 2025.
