FSIB Recommends Asheesh Pandey as MD & CEO of UBI and Kalyan Kumar for CBI Leadership.

In May 2025, the Mumbai-based Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) recommended Asheesh Pandey as the next Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Union Bank of India (UBI) and Kalyan Kumar as the MD & CEO of Central Bank of India (CBI), both headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Asheesh Pandey is currently serving as Executive Director (ED) at Bank of Maharashtra, Pune. He will succeed A. Manimekhalai, whose term as MD & CEO of UBI concludes in June 2025.
  • - Kalyan Kumar, presently an ED at Punjab National Bank (PNB), New Delhi, will take over from M.V. Rao as MD & CEO of CBI. Rao is scheduled to retire in July 2025.
  • - Asheesh Pandey started his banking career at Corporation Bank in Mumbai and has previously worked at UBI in key roles including Project Manager for setting up insurance and mutual fund operations. He has also served as Head of SARAL Credit Processing Cell, Head of the Chairman’s Secretariat, and as CGM & COO in UBI.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Kalyan Kumar began his banking journey in 1995 as a Rural Development Officer at UBI. He later joined PNB, where he led major initiatives such as the HR Transformation Programme, ‘PNB Udaan’. He has also served as faculty and principal at various training institutions.
  • (ii) In addition to his banking career, Kalyan Kumar is a Board Member of the Management Development Institute (MDI) Society and serves as Chairman of the Governing Board of NIBSCOM, Noida.
  • (iii) The final appointments are subject to approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
