In May 2025, Gurugram (Haryana)-based InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to establish a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru, Karnataka, with an investment of ₹1,100 crore.

  • - As part of the MoU, BIAL will allocate around 31 acres of land to IndiGo for the development of this state-of-the-art MRO facility.

  • (i) The new MRO unit, IndiGo’s second in Bengaluru, will support its growing fleet of over 400 aircraft, with the capability to service both narrow-body and wide-body planes, aiming to enhance aircraft availability, reduce operational costs, and enable quicker turnaround times.
  • (ii) The agreement also covers collaboration on network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing to strengthen Bengaluru’s aviation ecosystem.
  • (iii) IndiGo already operates MRO facilities in Delhi and Bengaluru, and has appointed aviation expert Ton Dortmans to lead its MRO strategy, with implementation expected by mid-August 2025.
