India Collaborates with WHO to Globalize Ayush Systems.

On May 24, 2025, the Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy), Government of India (GoI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Health Organization (WHO), headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The agreement focuses on developing a Traditional Medicine Module under the International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI).

  • - This collaborative initiative seeks to standardize traditional medical systems globally, thereby improving their accessibility, integration, and scientific validation.
  • - A new Traditional Medicine Module will be developed under WHO’s International Classification of Health Interventions (ICHI), complementing the ICD-11 by including codified interventions from Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, and Unani systems.
  • - Treatments like Panchakarma (Ayurveda), Yoga therapy, Unani regimens, and Siddha procedures will gain standardized global terminology—enabling transparent billing, fair pricing, and broader insurance integration.
