In May 2025, researchers at the Bengaluru (Karnataka)-based Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), developed a cutting-edge Sodium-Ion Battery (SIB) utilizing NASICON (Na Super Ionic Conductor) technology.

The battery employs NASICON-type cathode and anode materials, specifically Na₀.₅V₀.₂₅Al₀.₂₅Nb₁.₅(PO₄)₃, optimized by nanoscaling particles, carbon coating, and aluminium doping—steps that increase conductivity and promote faster sodium-ion transport.
