MHA Unveils e-Zero FIR Portal to Strengthen Action Against Cyber Financial Crimes.

App and Web Portal | Dated: 25 May 2025

In May 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launched the electronic-Zero First Information Report (e-Zero FIR) system through its Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) to fast-track responses to cyber financial crimes.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Initially rolled out as a pilot project in Delhi, the initiative is set to be extended across other States and Union Territories (UTs) in a phased manner.
  • - Automatic FIR registration for cyber financial crime complaints involving losses of ₹10 lakh or more, reported via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or Cybercrime Helpline 1930.
  • - System integration of the NCRP, Delhi Police’s e-FIR platform, and the National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) to streamline case registration and investigation.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) FIRs are initially filed with Delhi’s e-Crime Police Station, regardless of the complainant’s location, and are then digitally transferred to the concerned territorial Cybercrime Police Station. Complainants must visit the relevant station within 3 days to convert the Zero FIR into a regular FIR.
  • (ii) The initiative is in line with Sections 173(1) and 1(ii) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, enabling electronic FIR filing without jurisdictional limitations.
  • (iii) This move marks a significant step in strengthening India's cybercrime response mechanism.
