MoHUA Extends PMAY-U Housing Completion Deadline to December 2025.

In May 2025, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) extended the deadline for completing houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) to 31 December 2025. This extension applies to houses approved up to March 31, 2022, giving beneficiaries more time to finish construction and avail the benefits of affordable urban housing.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Launched in June 2015 by the Government of India under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, PMAY-Urban aims to achieve the goal of "Housing for All" in urban areas. MoHUA serves as the nodal ministry, responsible for policy-making, funding, and overseeing implementation progress across states and urban local bodies.
  • - The PMAY-U 2.0, rolled out in 2024, is a revamped version of the original scheme. It continues to provide financial assistance for constructing pucca (permanent) houses to eligible urban beneficiaries. The scheme targets families from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low-Income Groups (LIG), and Middle-Income Groups (MIG) who do not own a house anywhere in India.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Under PMAY-U 2.0, the government supports house completion through four verticals: BLC, AHP, CLSS, and ISSR. These components address diverse urban housing needs by offering financial aid, partnerships, loan subsidies, and slum redevelopment for inclusive housing development.
  • (i) Since its inception, PMAY-U has seen the construction of over 92.61 lakh houses across India. The scheme has significantly improved living conditions for urban poor families, slum dwellers, and economically disadvantaged sections by promoting home ownership and providing dignified living spaces.
  • (iii) To be eligible for PMAY-U, applicants must belong to EWS (income up to ₹3 lakh), LIG (₹3–6 lakh), or MIG-I (₹6–9 lakh), including slum dwellers. PMAY-G excludes families with pucca homes, assets, or tax-paying members, prioritizing kutcha house residents identified by SECC.
