India Installs 34 Supercomputers with 35 Petaflops Capacity Under National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

On 28 April 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announced the successful deployment of 34 supercomputers across India with a combined computing power of 35 Petaflops (10 lakh gigabytes, GB) under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - NSM has significantly enhanced access to advanced computational resources for researchers, especially in smaller cities, by providing them with world-class supercomputing infrastructure.
  • - These 34 supercomputers have been installed at premier academic and research institutions including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), C-DAC, and multiple institutions in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) NSM was launched in 2015 by the Government of India (GoI) with the goal of strengthening India’s capabilities in the field of supercomputing and developing indigenous high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
  • (ii) It is a joint initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and MeitY.
  • (iii) The mission is being implemented by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru (Karnataka).
