On 4th January 2025, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL) celebrated its 79th Foundation Day in New Delhi.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - CSIR-NPL is India’s National Metrology Institute (NMI), responsible for developing, maintaining, and distributing National Standards to various industries, strategic sectors, and scientific research.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) During the event, CSIR-NPL signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with IITM (Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, Tamil Nadu) to foster academic and research collaboration, and with CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) for the production of Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya (BND), which are Certified Reference Materials derived from plant-based sources.
  • (ii) During the event, CSIR-NPL introduced two new Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravyas (BNDs): Lanthanum Hexaboride Powder (BND-2025), designed as a calibration standard for powder X-ray diffraction, and White Portland Cement Standard (BND-5064), developed in collaboration with the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM).
