MoE Releases UDISE+ 2023-24 Report and School Enrollment Sees a Decline of Over 1 Crore Compared to 2018-19.

In January 2025, the Ministry of Education (MoE) released the 'Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2023-24' report on school education in India. The report indicated a decline in school enrollment from 25.17 crore (2022-23) to 24.8 crore (2023-24), a decrease of 1.22 crore students (6%) compared to 2018-19.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The report highlighted that school enrollment across India remained above 26 crore from 2018-19 to 2021-2022, showing consistent annual increases, except for the COVID year of 2020-21.
  • - The number of boys enrolled in school decreased by 4.87%, from 13.53 crore (2018-19) to 12.87 crore (2023-24).
  • - Similarly, the number of girls enrolled in school declined by 4.48%, from 12.49 crore (2018-19) to 11.93 crore (2023-24).

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The UDISE+ report showed that the number of single-teacher schools in the country decreased by 7,219, from 1,18,190 (in 2022-23) to 1,10,971 (in 2023-24).
  • (ii) Among the states, Madhya Pradesh (MP) recorded the highest number of single-teacher schools with 13,198, followed by Andhra Pradesh (AP) with 12,611 schools.
