The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC), under the Ministry of Science & Technology (MoS&T), launched the 'One Day One Genome' initiative to showcase India's vast microbial potential.

  • - The initiative was announced by Amitabh Kant, India's Group of 20 (G-20) Sherpa and Former CEO of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, on the 1st Foundation Day of BRIC on November 9, 2024, at the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi.

  • (i) The initiative, coordinated by BRIC-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (BRIC-NIBMG) based in West Bengal, aims to release a fully annotated bacteriological genome isolated in India.
