India exports Pinaka rocket systems to Armenia.

On November 24, 2024, the first batch of the Indian-manufactured and most indigenously developed Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launchers (MBRL) were exported to Armenia.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - In 2022, Armenia and India signed a contract worth Rs 2,000 crore for the supply of rocket launchers. The Indian side confirmed that Armenia had ordered 3 models of Pinaka rocket systems, which were to be transported from New Delhi (Capital of India) to Yerevan (Capital of Armenia) by 2024.
  • - Armenia is one of the 3 largest buyers of Indian weapons and equipment along with the United States (US) and France.
  • - Pinaka rockets are manufactured by Solar Industry's Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), based in Nagpur, and Munitions India Limited (MIL), a government-owned enterprise.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) MBRL was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the DRDO, aimed at providing the army with firepower superiority that would reduce casualties to soldiers in war.
  • (ii) It was first used during the Kargil War, where it successfully neutralised Pakistan Army positions.
  • (iii) India simultaneously delivered two types of defense equipment to Armenia: DRDO-developed rocket launchers and the Akash air defense missile system, showcasing its commitment to strengthening Armenia's defense capabilities.
