IAF signs MoU with IISc and FSID to promote science and innovation.

On November 19, 2024, the Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQMC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) formalized a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Bengaluru-based Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) in a ceremony held in Bengaluru through the Base Repair Depot, Panchwati, Palam.

  • - This initiative aims to address key challenges faced by the IAF, including radar systems, aircraft, and various Information Technology (IT) communication platforms.
  • - The event was attended by Air Vice Marshal VRS Raju (Deputy Senior Maintenance Staff Officer, HQMC), Air Commodore Harsh Bahl (Air Officer Commanding, Base Repair Depot, Panchwati, Palam) on behalf of the IAF, and Captain Sridhar Warrier (Retd.) (Registrar, IISc) and Prof. B. Gurumoorthy (Director, FSID).

  • (i) The agreement will facilitate access to both organizations' testing facilities, fostering mutual benefit to enhance academic collaboration between the IAF and IISc, particularly in relation to Post Graduate (PG) programs.
  • (ii) Advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Digital Twin-based systems will also be explored to enhance lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, and resource optimization.
  • (iii) This partnership contributes to strengthening self-reliance under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, encouraging the participation of startups, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and other industrial entities in defense indigenization programs.
