PM Modi visited Varanasi, inaugurated ₹2,200 crore projects and released PM-Kisan funds.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced his visit to Varanasi on August 2, 2025, at approximately 11 AM in the morning. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel, he presided over a public event in Mehdiganj where he laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 52 development projects worth nearly ₹2,200 crore.These works spanned diverse sectors including roads, power, tourism, education, sports, healthcare, and urban infrastructure.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - In the transport and connectivity domain, PM Modi inaugurated widening and strengthening of the Varanasi–Bhadohi and Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar roads, along with a new railway overbridge at Hardattpur on the Mohan Sarai–Adalpura stretch. He also initiated corridor upgrades across Dalmandi, Lahartara‑Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur, as well as overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard to ease congestion.
  • - A significant infrastructure milestone was the launch of the Smart Power Project, allocating over ₹880 crore for smart distribution and underground cabling to improve reliability in electricity supply. This move aims to modernize urban power systems and prevent frequent outages.
  • - Cultural conservation and tourism received emphasis with the development of eight riverfront ghats, restoration of temples including Durgakund and Kardameshwar Mahadev, and beautification of Kalika Dham. Urban forestry initiatives such as Miyawaki parks in Karkhiyaon and Shaheed Udyan were also launched to promote green urban spaces.

  • (i) In education and healthcare sectors, the PM laid foundation stones for a new homeopathic college and hospital, upgraded 53 school buildings, and inaugurated a district library. Healthcare infrastructure was bolstered by installing advanced medical equipment like CT scanners and robotic surgical systems at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital.
  • (ii) During the event, PM Modi released the 20th instalment of the PM‑Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring ₹20,500 crore directly to bank accounts of over 9.70 crore farming families nationwide, of which roughly ₹900 crore benefited farmers in Varanasi. Additionally, more than 7,400 assistive devices were distributed to senior citizens and people with disabilities, reflecting inclusive welfare outreach.
  • (iii) PM Modi chose not to perform darshan at the Baba Vishwanath Temple during the Shrawan (Sawan) month, stating that his presence could cause crowding and inconvenience to devotees in this holy period. He expressed deep spiritual reverence and devotion, emphasizing public convenience over personal desire.At the close of his address, he advocated the “Vocal for Local” ethos, highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor, and reaffirmed a vision of India ascending to the world’s third-largest economy.
