TASL and Dassault Aviation Ink Deal to Manufacture Rafale Fuselages in Hyderabad.

On June 5, 2025, Hyderabad-based Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Paris-headquartered Dassault Aviation SA, a prominent French aircraft manufacturer, signed four Production Transfer Agreements to manufacture the fuselage of Rafale fighter jets in India. The production will cater to both domestic requirements and global exports.

  • - This collaboration marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time Rafale fuselages will be manufactured outside France—signaling a significant leap in India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
  • - The partnership also reinforces the vision of 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', representing a major boost to India's defense manufacturing ecosystem.
  • - Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will establish a specialized facility in Hyderabad, Telangana, to manufacture key structural components of the Rafale fighter jet. These include the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, complete rear fuselage, central fuselage, and front fuselage section, significantly enhancing India’s role in advanced aerospace manufacturing.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The facility is expected to commence production by 2028, with the first fuselage sections rolling out the same year. Once operational, it aims to deliver up to two complete fuselages per month. This will support both the Indian Air Force and global export requirements for Rafale fighter aircraft.
  • (ii) The TASL-Dassault partnership positions India as a key contributor to the global aerospace supply chain. Manufacturing Rafale fuselages domestically enhances India’s technological capabilities and supports Dassault Aviation’s global production demands, aligning with the nation’s ambition to become a hub for advanced defense and aerospace manufacturing.
  • (iii) This agreement follows the April 2025 Inter-Governmental Agreement between India and France for 26 Rafale-M jets, worth ₹63,887 crore. Deliveries are scheduled between 2028 and 2030. The deal includes establishing Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in India for engines, sensors, and weapons, boosting self-reliance in defense infrastructure.
