China Launches 12 AI Satellites to Create World’s First Orbital Supercomputer.

In May 2025, China successfully launched the first batch of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled satellites aboard a Long March 2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. This mission aims to establish the world’s first supercomputer in orbit.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The Three-Body Computing Constellation, a space supercomputer project, is developed by Chinese startup ADA Space in partnership with Zhejiang Lab and the Neijiang High-Tech Zone.
  • (ii) Once fully operational, the constellation aims to deliver a total computing power of 1,000 Peta Operations per Second (POPS), which equals 1 quintillion operations per second.
  • (iii) Beijing-based LandSpace Technology Corporation’s methane-powered rocket, Zhuque-2E Y2, successfully launched 6 satellites into orbit, marking the fifth flight of the Zhuque-2 series from the Dongfeng Commercial Space Innovation Test Area at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China.
