Tata Power and Bhutan's DGPC Partner to Develop 5,000 MW Clean Energy Projects.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered into a strategic partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), based in Thimphu, Bhutan, to develop 5,000 MW of clean energy capacity, including 4,500 MW of hydropower and 500 MW of solar power in Bhutan.

  • - This collaboration aims to tap into Bhutan’s vast hydropower potential to meet energy demands in both Bhutan and India.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The partnership includes the phased development of hydropower projects such as the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Plant (HEP), the 740 MW Gongri Reservoir, the 1,800 MW Jeri Pumped Storage, and the 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV. Additionally, TPREL will oversee the development of 500 MW of solar projects in Bhutan.
  • (ii) The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Thimphu, Bhutan, in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and India’s Ambassador to Bhutan.
